Combining injection molding with a reaction process
Technology fusion facilitates multicomponent molding

Munich, June 8, 2010 – KraussMaffei offers a fast track route to producing the new generation of multicomponent products through technology fusion solutions. The company offers manufacturing cells that integrate injection and reaction molding and automation in perfectly tailored solutions. They enable processors to produce multicomponent parts with enhanced functionality, locally optimized haptics and a wide range of premium surfaces.

MX machines make the big jump to injection molding plus PU processing

KraussMaffei’s MX series of large, high-performance machines has been strongly established in the market for many years. MX machines combined with swivel platen technology (SpinForm) are ideal for mass production of large multicomponent products. The optimized platen geometry of the two-platen clamp ensures highest precision and highly dynamic responses. This makes for exact, parallel-platen mold closing, even with heavy multicomponent molds.

At the K2010, KraussMaffei will be showing an MX SpinForm manufacturing cell with an integrated reaction process producing complex 3C thermoplastic/PU composite parts in a one-shot process. Cost-effective production of this type of component is of growing importance in sectors as diverse as automotive, electronics, consumer goods and packaging. The PU component is produced and applied to the thermoplastic substrate using the latest reaction process technology. The RimStar MiniDos metering system uses newly developed pumps made by KraussMaffei . Specially treated surfaces, optimized control disks and pistons ensure smooth operation and a long service life. State-of-the-art mixing head technology delivers precision output and excellent abrasion protection.

With this innovative exhibit, KraussMaffei is demonstrating an easy entry into multitechnology production, facilitated by the fact that the entire system – machinery, robot and process technology – come from the same supplier, so that all the component parts are engineered to work optimally together.

Exhibit with efficiency benefits

Fitted with energy-efficiency modules from KraussMaffei’s BluePower package, the machine also offers an insight into options for reducing energy consumption in production to cut unit manufacturing cost even further. The Energy Analysis Tool measures current energy consumption of individual consumers at every process step and displays the data online. This readily available information is an important aid in process optimization. BluePower servo drive servo pump technology ensures high energy efficiency for the whole system solution. Easy to fit, easy-care BluePower EcoPac insulating sleeves around the plasticizing unit are an effective way of cutting radiation heat losses.
