The processing unit (screws/barrel) and gear box are key components for extruder performance. KraussMaffei Berstorff has developed a maintenance concept to prioritize and optimize maintenance work on these components to identify and eliminate potential problems.
For example, we use structure-borne noise detectors to monitor the state of the bearings and gear teeth in gear box diagnosis. We also analyse the hydraulic oil and use the results to guide future maintenance measures.
We measure the amount of wear on screws and barrels. By comparing the measurements with reference data, we can predict how long the processing unit can still operate without problems. We also check that the screw geometry matches the polymer formulation currently being extruded or whether customer-specific modifications could improve output.
Benefits for customers:
- Condition-based maintenance is a major tool for avoiding stoppages.
- You can be sure the screw geometry is optimized for the formulation you are processing. This results in increased productivity.
